Brazil's Naturist Beaches and Resorts Guide
Brazil is unusual in that most of its naturist beaches are formally designated, not merely tolerated. Six of the eight beaches we verify carry official sanction — Praia do Pinho at Balneario Camboriu, the country''s first official naturist beach; Praia de Tambaba in Conde, Paraiba, the strictest of them; Praia de Massarandupio in Bahia; Praia do Abrico in Rio de Janeiro; Pedras Altas at Palhoca; and Barra Seca at Linhares. Behind the coastline sits a second layer that most visitors miss: an organised, federation-affiliated club and campground network inland, including Colina do Sol in Rio Grande do Sul, Rincao Clube Naturista in Sao Paulo state, PLANAT near Brasilia, Ecovila da Mata in Bahia, RAMA NAT in Minas Gerais and GRAUNA in Manaus. Fourteen verified Brazilian places in total, verified 26 August 2026.
Which naturist beaches in Brazil are officially designated?
Praia do Pinho at Balneario Camboriu in Santa Catarina is the historic one, the beach that established official naturism in Brazil, and it operates year-round. Praia de Tambaba at Conde in Paraiba is the most distinctive: it is the only place in our entire worldwide database catalogued with a nudity policy of required rather than optional in its naturist sector, so this is not a beach where you keep your swimwear on. Praia de Massarandupio at Entre Rios in Bahia is the northeast''s main naturist beach and has a naturist ecovillage alongside it. Praia do Abrico, inside the city limits of Rio de Janeiro, is the rare officially designated naturist beach in a major metropolis. Pedras Altas at Palhoca in Santa Catarina is the quieter southern option, also year-round, and Barra Seca at Linhares in Espirito Santo is the remote one.
Two beaches sit outside that pattern. Praia da Galheta on the eastern side of Ilha de Santa Catarina at Florianopolis has official standing but a policy we record as tolerated by custom in practice, and it is the one beach in the set with a genuinely seasonal character, peaking from December to March. Olho de Boi Beach at Buzios in Rio de Janeiro state is neither designated nor easy: a small cove reached by a difficult hike-in path, customary rather than sanctioned, and adults-oriented in practice.

What is Brazil's inland naturist club network?
Brazilian naturism is organised, and the Federacao Brasileira de Naturismo affiliation shows up repeatedly in our records. Colina do Sol at Taquara in Rio Grande do Sul is the flagship: a large, long-established naturist village with lodging, camping and recreational facilities, open year-round and to day visitors, and the one place where the Southern Hemisphere summer high season from December to February genuinely requires booking ahead. Rincao Clube Naturista near Guaratingueta in Sao Paulo state runs on weekends and holidays with reservations required, and has pool, sauna, lake access, a communal kitchen and strict noise rules. PLANAT, the Clube Naturista Planalto Central at Santo Antonio do Descoberto in Goias, serves the Brasilia region with limited day access.
Three further entries round out the network. Ecovila / Ecoparque da Mata sits next to Praia de Massarandupio in Bahia — a naturist ecovillage and campground founded by the naturism pioneer Waldo Andrade, which means you can combine an official naturist beach and naturist lodging in a single stay. RAMA NAT Estancia Naturista at Extrema in Minas Gerais is a naturist inn with a pool and restaurant, aimed mainly at overnight guests. GRAUNA, the Grupo Amazonico Uniao Naturista in Manaus, is the Amazon region''s naturist group and functions as an event venue with limited access rather than a drop-in property.

When should you travel, and what should you expect on arrival?
Brazil''s seasons run opposite to the northern hemisphere, so the December to March window is high summer — the peak for Praia da Galheta and the period when Colina do Sol advises booking accommodation in advance. Thirteen of the fourteen places we track are listed as year-round in some form, so timing is about crowds and water temperature rather than closures. Two practical notes from the records themselves: Barra Seca in Espirito Santo is remote with limited transport and minimal facilities, so plan the journey and bring what you need; and Tambaba''s naturist sector requires nudity rather than merely permitting it, which is worth knowing before you walk in. Thirteen of the fourteen are catalogued as family-oriented — only Olho de Boi reads as adults-oriented — which reflects how mainstream and organised Brazilian naturism is.
Are nude beaches legal in Brazil?
At designated naturist beaches, yes. Brazil formally designates naturist beaches, and six of the eight we verify — Praia do Pinho, Praia de Tambaba, Praia de Massarandupio, Praia do Abrico, Pedras Altas and Barra Seca — carry official sanction. Away from those designated beaches, nudity is not generally permitted, so the designation is what makes it lawful rather than a nationwide tolerance.
Which was Brazil's first official naturist beach?
Praia do Pinho at Balneario Camboriu in Santa Catarina is the beach that established official naturism in Brazil and remains one of the best known. It is open year-round and family-oriented, and it sits within easy reach of the wider Santa Catarina coast, where Pedras Altas and Praia da Galheta offer two further naturist options.
Do you have to be nude at Praia de Tambaba?
In the naturist sector, yes. Tambaba at Conde in Paraiba is recorded with a nudity policy of required rather than optional — the only place in our worldwide database catalogued that way — so its naturist area is genuinely nudity-mandatory, unlike the clothing-optional model used at Brazil''s other designated beaches.
Are there naturist resorts in Brazil, not just beaches?
Yes. Colina do Sol at Taquara in Rio Grande do Sul is a large naturist village with lodging and camping, RAMA NAT at Extrema in Minas Gerais is a naturist inn, Rincao Clube Naturista in Sao Paulo state runs a reservation-based campground on weekends and holidays, and Ecovila da Mata in Bahia is a naturist ecovillage beside Praia de Massarandupio. PLANAT near Brasilia and GRAUNA in Manaus are organised naturist groups with limited access.
When is the best time to visit Brazil's naturist beaches?
December to March is the Southern Hemisphere summer and the peak season, especially for Praia da Galheta at Florianopolis, which is listed as a summer beach. Most other Brazilian naturist places are year-round, so shoulder months mean fewer crowds without closures — but book Colina do Sol well ahead if you are travelling in the high season.
