Héliopolis, on the French island of Île du Levant off the coast of Hyères, is one of the oldest organized naturist communities in France, dating back to the 1930s, occupying the western portion of the island while the rest remains a restricted French Navy zone. Nudity is the norm throughout the naturist village rather than an occasional option, and the island is reached only by boat, with no cars and limited infrastructure.

Know before you go

Île du Levant has no bridge or airport — access is exclusively by passenger ferry from Hyères or nearby ports, and same-day return schedules should be checked before you go. Nudity is broadly expected within Héliopolis, but some specific indoor spaces or businesses may set their own minimum-dress rules, so follow posted signage on the island.
